Skiptonia with Starlings
It’s a ‘Townscape’ photo-collage made from over three hundred images taken in and around the town of Skipton, North Yorkshire. Except for the Starlings! I've created a monster!
I gathered photos of many familiar and not so familiar buildings and objects over several visits and edited, combined and merged them into a Skipton townscape.
It’s been quite a departure from anything I'd produced before. It's a whimsical piece; I had great fun playing with disguise, confused perspectives, tricks and misdirections.
It took on a life of its own as I struggled to assemble the jumbled pieces. At times it confounded me and I left it alone to stew for a while.
I've a framed copy at over a metre square that has quite a presence. It can't be reproduced too small as the detail is lost. I must admit I didn't think of that at the time. But never mind, I'm very pleased with the finished piece.
